Key Features

This course is designed to train graduates for employment as statisticians in a range of industries. Specialised study is also available in the areas of biostatistics, epidemiological methods, graphics imaging, non paramedic function fitting, time series and stochastic finance. The Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Statistics will be awarded upon successful completion of six of the coursework units offered in the Master of Applied Statistics including the core unit Stat810: Statistical Theory.

Suitable For

The majority of students who enrol, join with the intention of becoming professional statisticians. A sizeable minority, however, are already working in other roles and find they require a deeper knowledge of statistics than they gained from their earlier training. Also, a number of students come to the course without a major in statistics but with a degree in another area. In most of these cases it is necessary to take some qualifying courses to bring the candidate's knowledge of statistics up to a suitable level.

Employment as statisticians in research organisations, insurance companies, financial institutions, medical institutions, government departments and industry.   

Requirements

Entry Requirements: Bachelor degree (or its equivalent) with a major in statistics. It is possible to enrol without a major in statistics but with a quantitative degree together with work experience in statistics. However if an applicant's background in statistics, mathematics or computing is insufficient, satisfactory completion of a qualifying program will be required before being offered admission.
